Site-Based Committee Meeting Minutes January 12, 2010 |
Members Present: Gary Bridges, Lisa Ashley, Cari Young, Laurie Williams, Melody Turner, Missy Patton, and Sid Gerber. LIS School Report Card: Campus Wide: Recognized; Commended in Science; District: Academically Acceptable Texas Public School Week: March 8-12 Career Day: We want to have a career day involving parents and people in the community. We could keep kids in class and let parents come in and give small talks about what they do and what it requires. Could have a survey of who could come. Send note home with parents. Or we could have different rooms with different occupations and the kids could go where they are interested. Wiley's Way: The College For All Texans Foundation wants to purchase this book for all students to discuss college readiness. This will be shown in the reading PLC to see what teachers think. Blue Cross/Blue Shield: This has been a costly year, and we may see a rate increase in the spring. We are self-insured and way cheaper than the state plan. Staff and employees should be aware of how great an insurance plan our district has.

Site Based Committee Meeting - Minutes - October 13, 2009 |
Members present: Gary Bridges, Sid Gerber, Melody Turner, Rosa Vasquez, Cathy Hughes, Rosie Lopez, Missy Patton, Lauire Williams, Cari Young, and Lisa Ashley
Discussed workshop of 10-12-09, Rules of Engagement with Dr. Rita Pierson. We would like her to speak to the whole district. Lots of kids have issues with sleep and lack of supervision. We need to build relationships, work together, and have respect for our colleagues.
6 Tenets of Excellent Schools were discussed. A) Strong Leadership: We appreciate support, presence, approachability, respect, communication, problem-solving, back-up. B) Data-Driven: Eduphoria has helped. Lots of the programs we are starting (Read180, VMath, etc.) are data-driven. RTI process has lots of great data. C) Focused Curriculum: Math (Sharon Wells) is very focused. Science is getting there. Reading teachers are having to pull from many resources so it takes extra time. Social Studies is using C-SCOPE to make sure all TEKS are covered. D) Staff Development: Need to train teachers in Fast Math, Lexia, Read Naturally, etc. and how to print reports. Faculty Meeting on October 27th will include NEO training. E) Student Discipline: Halls still seem to be loud. Do students need time to socialize? Maybe allow them to visit quietly in cafeteria? F) Parent/Community: Muffins with Moms was a huge success. So was the hamburger meal at the beginning of the year. Parent meetings haven't been well attended, maybe because parents are worried that we will ask for time or money. We need to change parent sign-in sheets to include English and Spanish. Maybe next year we will combine "Back to School Night" and "Meet the Teacher" before school starts, and maybe we will compartmentalize by teams so that we have smaller groups and can get to know each other.
Goals for Levelland Intermediate School: We will consider these and discuss them at the faculty meeting.
- We will be an exemplary campus!
- We will produce young men and women of character.
- We will build relationships with students and parents that encourage a love of learning.
- We will love and nurture all students.
- We will grow pride in being future Lobos and Loboettes.
Levelland Intermediate Vision: LIS students, parents, and staff...working together, learning together.
Miscellaneous: ESC17 now has C-SCOPE assessments live on Webcat. All gradebooks need to stay current. LISD Forum Thursday, 10-15-09. People are being trained in technology in each building so we have more troubleshooters.
